My Great Grandfather Moses was known for peeling apples with his pocket knife. I believe this is what he was holding up proudly for the camera! Moses Greenworth and Amanda
This posting will be mostly covering Amanda Mandy Levina Johnson and her Son Allen Preston Pool. Let me first apologize for this being such a lengthy post. It is in hopes it will squelch the myth about her Son Allen being from a previous marriage. Amanda's factual time line follows. Amanda was born in Feb 1874 in Arkansas City, AR,only a stones throw from the mighty Mississippi River. Her parents were Marion Johnson, 20 Apr 1839 in AL, and Martha Dickerson, 28 Feb 1845 in Tennessee. In 1880, at the age of 6, Amanda was living in Limestone, Franklin County, AR. In the home were both her parents, 3 Sisters, Martha E, age 9, Tulda, age 4, Vicy, age 1, and her Cousin Sarah Mitchel, age 16. I could not locate the family in the 1890 US Federal Census Records. In 1900, at the age of 26, Amanda was living with her parents in Township 8, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory. Also in the home are Sisters Vica or Vicy age 20, Millie, age 18, and a Brother Jesse, age 14. On 25 Aug 1905, the Mother of Amanda passes away in Slaytonville, Sebastian County, AR In the year of 1910, in Cameron, LeFlore County, OK, you will find Amanda, at the age of 36, living with her Father Marion, listed as age of 70. During the year of 1912 Exact date unknown, The wife of Moses Greenworth Pool, Missouri Elvina Hall Pool passes away, and is buried in Comanche, OK. On 13 Mar 1913, Amanda's Father Passes away in Wickes, Polk County, AR. 11 Apr 1915, Moses Greenworth Pool and Amanda Mandy Levinia Johnson are married in Cameron, LeFlore County, OK. He was 60 and she was 41. The year 1920 shows Amanda and Moses residing in Poteau, LeFlore County, OK with one child. Son Allen Preston Pool, listed as age 2. In 1930, they are residing in Hope, Stephens County, AR. Moses is 76, Amanda is 56, and Allen Preston is 12. On 8 Jun 1938, Moses Greenworth Pool passes away in either Marlow or Hope, Stephens County, AR. He is buried in Comanche, OK, next to his first wife Missouri Elvina Hall. 10 Dec 1941, Amanda Mandy Levenia Johnson Pool marries Henderson Andrew Foy Boatman in Duncan, Stephens County, OK. The year Amanda Mandy Johnson passes away is still a mystery to me, but it is my understanding that she too is buried in Comanche, OK near Moses Greenworth Pool. Now on to Allen Preston Pool The Son of Moses Greenworth and Amanda Mandy Johnson On 24 Sept 1940 around the age of 23, Allen Preston married Norma Fay Early. No other information is available. On 5 Jun 1942 Allen Preston enlists into the U.S. Army at Oklahoma City, OK. His enlistment records show his city and state of residence as Madera, California. His marital status is listed as separated with no dependents. He enlisted for the duration of the war plus 6 months as a private for the Warrant Officer program. On 7 Jun 1943, Allen marries Verna Viola Ferguson in Colorado Springs, CO. It is my understanding they have two children, but I cannot confirm this. Allen Preston Pool passed away in Portland, OR in either 1950 or 1957. Cause of death is unknown. I cannot find a record of death for Allen. All searches I have made for Amanda Mandy Levenia Johnson were done using her Father Marion Johnson during the search.

Tyford and Mollie Poole Family
It took me a long time to locate Tyford Poole in the 1910 Federal Census. I knew that they were in Oklahoma. I am still not sure where Quartz, Greer County, Oklahoma is in relation to LaFlore County where so much of the family were settled. I am going to use the exact spelling that the Census taker used because it amuses me to THINK what their Southern accents sounded like to this person. He spells it Teford Paal. So you just have to use your imagination with the spelling PAAL. Makes you SMILE also. Tyford states that he was born about 1873 and he is 37 years old. Mollie is 35. The children listed are Emmitt G, age 14, Roy G, age 12, Osa, age 11, Chester age 9, Clarence A, age 7, Bertie L, age 4, Bertha M, age 2 and Bailey F, age 1. If not for soundex I would have never found Tyford Pool listed as Teford L Paal. This photo was taken in March 1911: Front Row: Bertha, Mollie and Hubert, baby on Mollie's lap. Tyford Franklin, Bailey Franklin, Bill, Bertie, died at age 17. Back row: Emmett, Ches, Ocie, Roy and Clarence. This was before Woodrow, who was the youngest.

Celebrated local artist dies at 77

NORMAN — Longtime Norman resident and celebrated artist O. Gail Poole died Saturday.
A celebratory gathering will be from 4 to 8 p.m. May 2 at the MAIN SITE Gallery, 122 E. Main in Norman. Guests are asked to dress as colorfully as they desire.
Poole, 77, was born in Marlow and held a bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Oklahoma. He has painted for more than half a century. Many of his works depict the landscape and the subtle attitudes of the untamed Southwestern
plains.Prior to making the decision to become a full-time artist, Poole worked as an award-winning advertising artist and illustrator for almost two decades.
He created and served as chairman of the Oklahoma City Art Directors Guild and opened an advertising art studio in Oklahoma City, Poole-Hobbes Inc.
In 1972, Poole was invited to participate in an international exhibition of Western art in Düsseldorf, Germany.
He was honored with a professional advancement award in 1992 from the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
He participated in countless solo, group, juried group and special exhibitions in museums and galleries across the United States.
Additionally, his work hangs in a number of national and international private collections.
Poole ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Norman in 2004 and was a frequent contributor to the newspaper’s letters columns.
He reflected on his work in the early 1990s, “... I have striven to be honest with my work and do only those things that please me other than those commissions necessary for living expenses.
“I have worked hard to learn the many disciplines of painting so that I can depict whatever image or statement I desire, with or without the benefit of ‘props.’” “I will continue my broad spectrum of work though most galleries are generally uncomfortable with unpredictable artists.”
“Each painting is to stand on its own, without benefit of explanation or justification. No juxtapositions or other ephemeral buzzwords seeking to confuse or dissipate.”
*O.Gail loved digging into his family history in seeking all he could about the Poole family where his roots began. We had many conversations over the years before his very untimely death...and we always come back to this one intriguing topic regarding our GG-Grandmother, Missouri Eddy. It's been an ongoing mystery...and during the years we searched and search, Orville decided to take it one step further...and do an DNA....the following is his assessment and thoughts on just who this woman we call Missouri Eddy truly came from...and to this day, the search continues! ~ Bren Pool
RESEARCH NOTES O.Gail Poole, son of Woodrow Poole, writes: I have taken the DNA tests in trying to get information on our ancestors past our gggGrandfather, Samuel Poole. I am just about 95% convinced that our family name was actually Pettypool, as a result of those tests. I know that Samuel and a brother Isaac, migrated with their families from South Carolina, shortly after Mississippi was opened for settlement.
John Poole, son of Emmett Greenworth Poole writes: RE: Missouri Elvina, Eddy, Hall, after an 1860 Census search for Missouri Eddy, of the 1,500 names listed, I found about 90% of them were from the Northeastern part of the U.S., and not one of them was born in Mississippi. I ran across a tree not too long ago, showing her last name as Hall, with a father named Henderson Hall, born 1 Dec 1810 in Tennessee, died 11 Oct 1878 and a mother, Nancy Adeline Jones, born 1822 in Mississippi. I ran an 1860 census and found a daughter named Missouri that was the right age and was born in Mississippi. The father of Henderson Hall is Pharaoh Hall born 1782 in Sampson, North Carolina, died in Warren Mississippi. The mother of Henderson Hall is Sarah Mary Johnson, born 1783 in North Carolina, died 1852 in Warren Mississippi. This information matched about as close as I think I am going to get so I am staying with it. Besides, just think about it for a minute folks... How many men do you know that was born in Tennessee, lived in Mississippi and named a daughter, Missouri? There's gotta be something to this. - O.Gail Poole Sept 16, 2009
